Going Deeper

Investigative Journalism is a risky job. You put your life in line like cops and soldiers do everyday. You gave the most accurate information to the people for them to know what is happening right now, what is the most trendy topics now, what is the condition of our country and so on and so forth. It is the one who is responsible in giving us news on T.V. mostly documentaries about a certain topic or trend. They are in newspapers, internet and radios too. The problem is, it is not that effective in those media except on the T.V. The television is the most effective way of sharing the truth to the public because of the impact that it makes everyday to people. To make investigative journalism work, you need to use the user-friendly media which is the television because of the majority has it. The internet or the new media is effective too but the problem is it is expensive and you will need to be connected to the internet to have the unlimited access to the information that you want to see.

But what is Investigative Journalism? Why is it one of the most risky job other than being a soldier or a cop? How does it work?

It is a form of journalism which the reporters or the journalists get deeply involve on investigating a topic or trend mainly on crime, corruption, political aspects, terrorism, conspiracy and other serious matters that the people really should know. They expose every single truth about what is going on. They gather information that they need in an investigative way. They interview the witnesses, view or gather some of the documents, conduct a survey, investigate the place or the crime scene or even up to the extent of going to the camp or headquarters of the suspect just to give us truth about what's going on. They put their lives in line just to serve the people and open their eyes. They expose every truth that they can found just to inform us and maybe start something. Investigative journalists wants to start something big. After that, it is up to us if we are going to continue what they have started maybe by making a difference in our country, give justice to someone who deserves it or give a reform.

When I were at the Internal Center for Communication Studies or the ICCS convention, I saw one of the most in my opinion, legendary Ed Lingao. He is an Investigative Journalist and a Multimedia Producer of GMA. He gave some pointers to novice journalists who wanted to go to the field. He said that you are going to put your life in line just for the sake of seeking the truth. You will spend time, money, effort, patience, and perseverance. He is the one who worked at the Ampatuan Assets issue. He said that many journalist died seeking the truth about those questionable assets. He literally said that you are going to risk your life just to expose truth for the sake of the filipino people. Back then, my mom said that he and his crew went overseas just to address the issue. He really is a  dynamic journalist.

This is the words that he quoted when he is giving some tips to young journalists. He said that truth started from a "tip" or an informant and it is for you if you are going to investigate about that truth or not. If you are, you have to work outside before penetrating inside because if you start from within, the suspect might hide the evidence that he has or "clean the accomplices that he has" before the truth leak. You have to disect every documents, letters, receipts etc. just to gain solid evidence against that individual. He said that testimonies aren't enough because they are not solid. They can be twisted, bribed or threatened so that they will not speak the truth. He even said that you might be following a trend for months and maybe ended up going on a dead end, meaning you just wasted time, energy, effort and money. But that is the risks and things that every journalists should put in mind.

What I learned is that you should not forget your ethics as a journalist. Your job is just to expose the truth, not to criticize someone. If you have the truth, you have to expose it and not to sell it to the accused or to someone for money. And lastly, you are not doing this to gain glory or popularity, you are doing this to serve the people.

The Alligator of Credits

Everyday we deal with people that likes to take some things for granted. They want you to help them when they need something, and then don't care after you have helped them. I know exactly how it feels when you are the victim of those people. They don't give you acknowledgement of what you've done for a thing to be successfully done, all they do is to get a bighead saying that they've done that. I know it's a slap on our faces but that's the reality.

The best example of it is an alligator, it's not a crocodile, alligators are a little bit smaller than those bigmouths. They open their mouths and ask for a dental aid from birds to eat the food particles that are stuck between their teeth after a big meal. Birds go and eat those food bits, and you know what the alligators do? They eat the birds after they clean their mouths. Some birds are lucky because they have a fast reaction getting away fast, but there are some that are left and got eaten. Sometimes the alligators just kills them.

Well there are some people that are like that in this world that we live in. People tend to abuse the help that they can get, benefits that they can get, and everything that they can get.
The worst case are the plagiarist. They claim others' work theirs. That is what I hate about them. Even though they paraphrase a document or reedit a picture or video, they are not the one who owned it, yet they claim it as it is theirs. That's why I call them Alligators of credit because they didn't credit the one who really did it. They are just sick. I can criticize those that does it, and I'll never run out of words for those bastards that do it. Why don't they just get lost.

But the sad thing is, there are people that are going to be like that. Even if you go to an agenda against them, there is nothing that you can do. You're just wasting your breath and spit about it. They are like fungi, they just sprung up and they are everywhere.

What you can do is to make a difference, don't be an alligator. Don't things be taken for granted, instead be grateful and take the time to give credits on those who helped you, even the resources that you used for your project to be accomplished. After all, you can't do everything by your own.

That's all what I can say about those people that don't care about other's effort.

The World Of Multimedia (What is Multimedia?)

Have you ever wondered how photograph capture the memories that we treasure forever? Or have you ever wondered about how entertainment films the events? How about wondering how the webpages being made or the games that we play on our consoles games or on our computer? If you want to find out, let me show you the world of multimedia.

Multimedia? What is multimedia, why is it called the multimedia?

Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. This contrasts with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. It includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity content forms.

Multimedia is usually recorded and played, displayed, or accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Its devices are electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. It is distinguished from mixed media in fine art; by including audio, for example, it has a broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia. Hypermedia can be considered one particular multimedia application.

It may sound like they are difficult to use but it is not. Unless you are one of them that hates "techie" stuff. But really, multimedia is easy to use.

In case you didn't notice, we are using multimedia in our daily lives. If you are using a cellphone that has camera, that is a form of multimedia. You are using DVDs or CDs to watch your favorite films, that is multimedia as well. You play games in your console, that is a form of multimedia too.
In our college, we use a projector during classes with the Microsoft Powerpoint Software. It is really convenient because it really saves a lot of space and it is really readable. To be honest to you, I love it.

Digital arts, graphics and many more are a part of multimedia as well. This picture is currently my desktop wallpaper on my netbook. This is called a form of multimedia too. Now I didn't make this wallpaper, I give the credits to who uploads it. Thank you, you made a good job making this fan art. The characters in this image is Totoro, Satsuki, and Mei from the film My Neighbor Totoro by Hayao Miyazaki.

To sum it up, the world of multimedia is very fascinating. You can really be a part of this world. Or maybe you are already a part of this world. Again, welcome to the world of Multimedia.

Responsible Netizenship

The word Responsible (/riˈspänsəbəl/) means being the primary cause of something and so able to be blamed or credited for it, or having an obligation to do something as a part of a job or role. It is also synonymous to the meaning of liable, accountable, answerable and reliable.

The word Netizen or a Cybercitizen is a person that is actively involved in online communities.

If we combine the two words, we would come up with the word of Responsible Netizenship which means a liable person that is actively involved in online communities.

Sounds good to the ears. But if I were to ask every netizen, are you responsible? The majority would say yes, yeah, I guess, I think so, etc. But what are the criteria for you to be counted as a "Responsible Netizenship"?

The cyber community today had spread so fast that most of the populations here in this planet are actively involved in online communities. The new media is being spread liberally to everyone that wants it so that's why I'm not shocked at all. As I speak right now, many people are making their facebook accounts or other related items, many are creating online game accounts, and many are using the Internet right now. Want to see a proof? As I make this blog, there are 46 people online in facebook, by the way, they are my facebook friends, and my cousin has 103 online friends, she is using her phone, and my brother, has 73 online friends, if we add the said numbers we would have 222 online people in facebook right now. What about the other people at home, if we open their facebook accounts, how many are online? I guess that by 222 it will be 300+. I hope that you get the picture in your head, that as you read this article, many people are online too. Why because, this new media is attracting everybody. Why? because its convenient, it has unlimited source of information from educated stuff to totally nonesense, the internet could provide you that. The internet can teach you too how to do stuff how? by going to youtube and search how to do stuff that you want to do and poof, its there.

The internet or the new media is a very convenient stuff, not only you can consume information, you can share your insights too. You want to post a picture so everybody can see it, you can do that too. You are looking for an employee, you can advertise. You want to sell something, you can advertise too. And if you just want to share something, maybe some words of inspiration, a song, a poem or anything related, you can do it too in the internet
.
You've got limitless things that you can do on the internet.
You want to know the glitch? Someone abuses it too.

According to internetworldstats.com, there are 937,407,180 users are there in facebook. That means that there are a lot out there that tend to abuse the use of facebook or the internet itself. When I say abuse, they tend to post questionable stuff out there in facebook. Profanity is legal in facebook, that means you can use cuss words in there. In case you didn't know, profanity is a kind of abuse too. Posting of explicit pictures in facebook is legal as well. Just like this picture for example, people finds it hilarious when they see stuff like this. I call this a kind of abuse. Why? You can tell right? I don't need to go through the details why this photo is not a kind of abuse.
People who likes pictures like this are called perverts, why because they like looking at things like this in facebook, or in a broader point, the internet. There are so many kinds of abuse out there but I use this example because this is the one of the most popular out there. Its so funny  but I therefore conclude that there are many perverts in the internet community.
There is a recent abuse done by a netizen to Chito Miranda and Neri Naig by exploiting their sex video to the net. The couple were humiliated because of the incident that was done. That video should only be for their private use but somehow was exploited.

As a netizen, we should be responsible on what we show to the public. We are not only hurting ourselves when we post questionable things on it, we also hurt others as well.

Traditional Vs New Media

We all have our opinion which media is better regarding to communication. There are diverse of media out there, we can say that each of them has their advantages and disadvantages. They have their pros and cons. It is natural because everything has it's own limitations.

But in your opinion, which is better? Traditional or New? But before you take your stand, let me explain what is Traditional and New Media.

Traditional media or called as the Old Media or the Legacy Media are one of the means before for mass communication. It is even used till now and still being appreciated by the majority. It has existed and still existing today even before the new advent of the new medium of the Internet. The way of communication with this media is in the way of the Television, Radio, Movies, print like newspapers, magazines, books and other related materials.

The New Media refers to the on demand access to content anytime, anywhere, or any digital device as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation. Most of the new media are described as technologies that have the characteristics of being manipulated, networkable, dense, comprehensive and interactive. Some examples are the internet, websites, computer multimedia, video games, CD-ROMs, and DVD-ROMs. It does not include the use of the television, radio, movie film, books, magazines or other print materials unless they are attached with digital  technologies that allow them to interact digitally. So the New Media basically means about digital interaction.

Now, the thing is both of these media has their own advantages and disadvantages. Both of them can be a benefit to us especially if we want to interact conveniently. Both of them are invented for us to ease things. But what are the pros and cons?

The Traditional Media

I. Advantages

  • They are effective in gathering the attention of the public.
  • They can be productive in interacting with the public.
  • People have many varieties they can choose to communicate to the public
II. Disadvantages
  • They cost a lot of money to broadcast an information.
  • It is expensive to be aired.
  • Limited information can only be shown to the public because of the government.
The New Media

I. Advantages
  • They are effective in gathering the attention of the public.
  • There are countless of information that can be gathered because of the wiki-knowledge management.
  • They can be used as a viewing, listening or reading material because of it being a multimedia.
  • Information is not limited and can be shown to the public.
  • Only an internet connection is required and internet enabled devices eg. cellular phones, computers, etc.
  • Employers and employees can work through the internet.
II. Disadvantages
  • Because of it being not limited, people tend to use it for illegal acts like online piracy, cybersex, online gambling and other related issues.
  • Because of it's too much information and being open for public, even explicit material are viewed by the minorities.
  • People can't help to gossip or criticize others through it because no one is watching your movement unlike in the traditional media, excluding China, North Korea and other communistic entities.
Overall, I can say again that both medias are effective. But as far as which do I prefer, I like the New Media better. You don't have to spend so much money to access the internet and get connected to people unlike the traditional media. You can publish your works through the new media. I mean as a student the internet is easier to use in terms of researching, studying and connecting to my fellow students. It can't be helped if people tend to abuse it. But as an individual, I can make a difference because I can prove that the New Media is proficient to anything else.

This is just my opinion and I am not trying to convince you to stand with me or anything. I'm just being realistic and practical.

What is communication? How will life be without it?

We all think that communication is just about communicating with someone in any way that we use through with speaking, with signs, with symbols, with mobile devices, and with other gadgets. We all think sometimes that communication is just about sharing your ideas and information to others.

But what is communication?

Communication (from Latin: "communis" means to share) is an activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writings, and behavior. It is the meaningful exchange of information between two or a group of person. To narrow it down, it is what we really think about it.

What is it to experts and well-known people?

" Communication is a process of transmitting or receiving signals or message." by Dr. J.P Chaplin
" In short, communication is simply means receiving and sending messages." by Dr. Dianne Hoffman

That is their view of communication and what does it mean. So to say that we communicate everyday. We interact with people and make business sometimes. Communication is a part of our daily lives since we are born. A baby cries when he or she is hungry, that is a way of communication. A car honks when needed, that is communication as well. Even signs and lights gives signals and we automatically know what it meant, that is also called communication. There are many ways on how we can communicate. The world of communication is that fascinating.

If its that important and fascinating, how will life be without it?

I can't imagine how will life be without communication. It's like a life without light, because it is a part of our lives. We communicate and interact everyday, it will be chaos if we don't have communication. I'm not talking about texting or chatting or even blogging, I mean in a broader sense. Without it, I can't imagine what would life be. For me it's a total wreck. Let's go back to history, almost at the beginning. Before, people spake of one language, but they wanted to go up to the heavens by making a tall tower. When God saw it, that is when He confounded their language, and guess what happened, total chaos and disorder took place because everyone didn't understand each other. Since then the tower was named Babel because that is when  God confounded the way they communicate. If it will happen again, I can't imagine how life would be.

I therefore conclude that communication is a vital and essential part of our living.
